Comandante Zero - (In Progress Resident Band)
Dan Freeman and Ken White, the New York City duo behind Comandante Zero, draw upon their eclectic experiences to create a sound that is as edgy as it is unique. Freeman graduated from Harvard and honed his chops by becoming an in-demand session bass player. White graduated from the New England Conservatory in 2001 and is currently working on his master's degree at New York University. Freeman and White wear several hats - Freeman is the lead singer and bass player and White not only plays the drums, but also simultaneously manipulates the electronics. The result is an original sound influenced by groove, gospel, elements of hip-hop and the dark sounds of the early to mid-80s post-modern movement. Their live set contains only bass, drums, vocal and minimal laptop to create a particular sound and vibe. They played at New York venues such as The Knitting Factory, Pianos, R&R, Club Midway, Vault @ Element, Crash Mansion as well as Webster Hall. Currently, Comandante Zero is the resident band for In Progress and performs on the first Saturday of each month at Vault.
Discrete Encounter - (October Guest Band)
Discrete Encounter was formed in 2003 by composer/producer Taras Mashtalir and singer/lyricist Natasha Romanova. Taras is a classical guitarist turned electronic music producer who began professional recording and performing in Moscow and St. Petersburg before moving production to New York. Natasha is a trained vocalist with the degree in classical music. Prior to US she performed in Ukraine and Russia on national radio and TV. Besides writing lyrics for Discrete Encounter, she is a prolific writer with poetry and prose being published since 2001. For the past few years Discrete Encounter has done numerous recordings and performed in various New York venues, including the Knitting Factory, Joe’s Pub and Crash Mansion. Recently the band toured the Midwest with shows in Chicago and Detroit.
Andrio Abero - (October Guest DJ)
Pacific Northwest native DJ Andrio Abero, an established graphic designer and break-dancer, deftly blends a sweeping range of electronic music, from the soulful deep house of Buzzin' Fly to techno from Kompakt. Andrio began mixing in 2000 at the Vera Project, a non-profit music and art center, and has played opening sets at Nuemos, the Rendezvous, Crawl Space Gallery, the Century Ballroom, and numerous parties in Seattle. In his work, he explores the relationship between art and design, dance and movement, visually and sonically.
Dan Alcala - (October Guest DJ)
Dan won the Avalon Nightclub mix contest in both 2004 and 2005, and since then has gained recognition from playing at other great Boston club venues such as Rise, The Phoenix Landing, Aria, Venu, 360 Ultra Lounge, Water Club and dozens of house parties around Boston. He’s also had the chance to open for some well known global DJs like Jay West, DJ Sneak, Mark Lewis and Matt Darey. Dan recently moved to New York and hopes to bring his unique style of tech house, electro and neo trance to the Big Apple.
Tony Mugavero – (October Guest DJ)
As a member of Datguy, Tony Mugavero has licensed or released tracks on Sony, Baroque, Tao, Lobotomy, Renaissance, System, Domestic, and Freq1see, and has produced remixes for The Commodores (“Brick House”/Universal/Motown/WishFM), The New Line Cinema Film Domino (Domestic/WishFM/King Solomon), Talvin Singh (Boom the film, India), Electric Light Orchestra, Iris, 3kStatic, and many others. Datguy’s productions have received support from Danny Tenaglia, James Zabiela, DFuse, Low End Specialists, MV, Kazell, Palash, and more!
